Walt Whitman (May 31, 1819 - March 26, 1892) is perhaps the best known poet of the civil war era. He worked as a nurse during the civil war and traveled far and wide in America while journaling his travels in poetry. His life's inspiration, Leaves of Grass, inspires poets and writers everywhere, and will continue to do so for generations to come.
