1980VSNaipaul

V.S. Naipaul in 1980.

Sir Vidiadhar Surajprasad Naipaul, Kt., TC, better known as V.S. Naipaul (August 17, 1932 - August 11, 2018) was a Trinidadian-born British writer of Indo-Trinidadian descent. In 1971, Naipaul became the first person of Indian origin to win the booker prize for his novel In a Free State. Naipaul was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 2001 and knighted by Queen Elizabeth II in 1990. His fiction and especially his travel writing have been criticized for their allegedly unsympathetic portrayal of the Third World.
