Utopia by Thomas More was initially published in 1516 in Latin. It depicts a society in contrast to the contemporary European life. Theoretically, it is an ideal society. This book is the first to use the term utopia. It is also the first of many to create a fictional, ideal society. This also inspired dystopian fiction, where an ideal or concept led to a nightmarish society.
