The Snow Child (ISBN 0755380533) is the first novel by the American author Eowyn Ivey. It was first published in 2012. It is set in Alaska during the 1920s. An older couple, Jack and Mabel, who have given up hope of having their own child, move to Alaska to farm. They find creating new fields from the woods and dealing with the long, cold, isolating winters a challenge. Their neighbors, especially Esther who misses the company of other women, are critical to helping them adapt.
After one snowfall, Jack and Mabel build a snowgirl. Soon after they start seeing a girl in the woods.
The story is based on a Russian fairytale.
This book was a finalist for the 2013 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction.
