Roald Dahl (September 13, 1916 - November 23, 1990) was an author born in Britain to two Norwegian parents. His works include novels and short stories for adults, plays, poetry and non-fiction, including four volumes of autobiography. He is best known for his children's books, which include Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, The Twits, The BFG and The Enormous Crocodile. He is also known for writing the screenplays of the films Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and You Only Live Twice , both based on works by Ian Fleming.

Dahl held strongly antisemitic views for which his family apologized after his death.
