Peter Ash is a crime thriller book series written by Nicholas Petrie that debuted with "The Drifter" in 2016. The series is made up of six novels, with "The Drifter" being nominated for an Edgar and a Barry for best first novel, and a Hammett Prize for Best Novel.

The Drifter[]
"The Drifter" is about Peter Ash, who came back from the wars in both Afghanistan and Iraq with a claustrophia (something that he calls “white static”) due to his post-traumatic stress disorder that has driven him to spend a year roaming in nature and sleeping outdoors. However, when a from the Marines commits suicide, Ash returns to civilization to help his widow with some home repairs. Under her dilapidated porch, he finds a big dog and a suitcase stuffed with money and explosives. As he begins to investigate this discovery, he might find himself leading back to the world that he thought he left.
