Mysteries or "detective fiction" usually revolve around a critical, unknown fact and the effort to learn it. Often the unknown fact is the identity of a murderer. Murders create a crime for which the key witness and victim is unable to identify the perpetrator. Not all mysteries involve murders, some may involve a missing person, a treasure hunt or spy mission.
