My Stroke of Insight: A Brain Scientists's Personal Journey is the story of the experiences of the author, Jill Bolte Taylor during her stroke and recovery. This non-fiction book also includes scientific information to help the reader understand what happens during a stroke. The author also hopes it will help others recognize and respond to a stroke faster. And finally, the book has resources for others assist in recovery.
Taylor was a rising star in neuroanatomy, specializing in the brain, when at the age of 37, she experienced a stroke. Over a four-hour period, she lost the abilities to talk, read, write, walk, or remember her own life. It took eight years to recover. Because of the nature of her stroke, during this time she often experienced life from a "right brain" perspective, that is, a peaceful, less logical viewpoint.
