James Tiptree, Jr. is the pen name of Alice Bradley Sheldon (1925-1987), used from 1967 until her death. She also occasionally wrote under the pseudonym Raccoona Sheldon (1974–77). She wrote mostly short stories and novellas, as well as two full-length novels towards the end of her career. Most of her work was science fiction.
