It Can't Happen Here is a novel by Sinclair Lewis. It was published in 1935 during the rise of fascism in Europe. The man who becomes president in the book, Berzelius "Buzz" Windrip, was compared to some of the European dictators and also to contemporary "strong-arm" politicians like Huey Long in the U.S. More recently the fictional president has been compared to Donald Trump.
