Literawiki

< Forum

Awhile ago someone copied over a large number of author articles from Wikipedia. While this was well intentioned and helped the wiki increase in size quickly, it had some unintended, bad consequences. Many of the links and templates do not work yet on this site, and the links that were changed to link back to Wikipedia created many links that take users away from this site even when the link would appropriately link to an article here.

So, I propose a "clean-up project". Anyone who would like to help, can look for articles -- they should have the Template:Usedwp -- and clean them up. Some recommended changes are

  • change links for works of literature and authors to be local
  • remove links that wouldn't normally be in this wiki - like to the author's birthplace
  • remove Wikipedia categories
  • add Literawiki categories

There were approximately 200 articles in this situation. Some have already been cleaned.

Opinions? Additional suggestions?

My opinion may be drastical: I would suggest to rewrite those articles completely. That was what I did with Isaac Asimov article. People that come here are not looking for Wikipedia, if they were they would just type en.wikipedia.org. David 10:58, 14 July 2008 (UTC)

I agree with David. If people are looking for Wikipedia they will go to Wikipedia. Literawiki articles should be different that Wikipedia articles, in a way, so I think we should work on entirely rewriting them, too. Swannie talk 12:06, 14 July 2008 (UTC)
Its more work, but I think you both make good points. I'm willing to try to be more ambitions about changing articles to have more of a Literawiki flavor. -- CocoaZen 02:58, 17 July 2008 (UTC)
