Thérèse Raquin is a 19th century novel by the French author Emile Zola. It is about a young woman whose overbearing aunt marries her to her first cousin. Her aunt may seem to be well-intentioned, but she is in many ways deeply selfish. Thérèse's husband, Camille, is sickly and egocentric, and when the opportunity arises, she ends up entering a passionate love affair with one of Camille's good friends, Laurent.
