Divergent is a dystopian science fiction novel by Veronica Roth. It is the first book in the Divergent trilogy. The second book is titled Insurgent, while the finale to the trilogy is called Allegiant. Hosting a main character that merges from shy to daring and courageous, this book wraps itself in the theme of accepting who you are and of being different.
In a world where society is divided into five different factions, a young girl named Beatrice Prior discovers a new side to herself when she chooses to leave her family for a more dangerous faction. It turns out that she is not who she thought she was, and her life is also changed when chaos hits her society to pit factions against each other.
Beatrice Prior (who would later be known as Tris) is unlike the rest. She is divergent. The definition of divergent means to move in different direction, and this is exactly what she does with her parents. Beatrice possesses multiple qualities: intelligence, courage, fairness, peace, and selflessness. Most, however, only posses one of these and belong to only one group. Born Abnegation (the selfless), she chooses to move to Dauntless (the brave and courageous).
Caleb Prior, Tris' brother, is a non-divergent but also chooses to leave the nest. He moves to Erudite (the intelligent) and is one stubborn bro.
Tobias Eaton (Four): Also from Abnegation, Four was abused by his father, Marcus. Marcus has a high position in the government, and his son leaving for Dauntless did not look so great. Four got this nickname from his record number of just 4 fears. Tobias Eaton is stubborn and determined.
