Christ has the same meaning as Messiah, Jesus being the new Messiah, from the descendants of David. The style of this New Testament is very different than the Old Testament. Jesus sees God as an all-merciful and loving father, very different from the angry and revenge God from the Old Testament (Interpretations may vary). Jesus invented the Commandment of Love to outline his teachings. He said: "But go and learn what this means: '''I desire mercy, not sacrifice.''' For I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners." on Matthew 9:13, citing literally Hosea 6:6. A very different approach to the bloody sacrifice of animals which was done in ancient times. Jesus also noticed that even Gentiles could learn his teachings, very contrary to Judaism.

The Bible is a collection of books which play a central role in Judaism and Christianity.

The Bible was the first book to be printed by Gutenberg. It has had a great importance in history and religion. Most of his writings are thought to be inspired directly by Yahveh, G-d (Judaism) or the Father (Christianity). It is divided in two major parts:

  • Old Testament: a collection of books about the history of Israel, the chosen people, from the creation of the world to the Revelation.
  • New Testament: a collection of books written about Jesus Christ as the expected Messiah.

Old Testament

The Old Testament differs greatly in style compared to New Testament. It contains most of Judaism basic tenets, along with Mishna and other traditions. It contains the Torah (more or less like the Pentateuc) and other writings. It pictures the people of Israel, their pacts with God and their destiny.

The Hebrew Bible comprises three parts: the Torah ("Teaching", also known as the Pentateuch or "Five Books of Moses"), the Prophets, and the Writings. It was primarily written in Hebrew with some small portions written in Aramaic.

The Christianity Bible includes several type of books:

  • Historical: contain history of Israel. These are books like Samuel 1 and 2 and Kings. These books talk about the time of Israel's Kingdom by David and Solomon. Those were Israel Golden Times. David was called the Messiah. All kings were anointed, that is the meaning of Messiah. Many of them only contain historical data and few religious subjects. The Pentateuc, written by Moses, talks about the creation, Noe and the Ark, and Abraham, Isaac and Jacob (Israel), from who the people of Israel are descendants.
  • Prophetic: meant to warn Israel about future events and to encourage them to obey God and the Law. Isaias, Daniel.

New Testament

Jesus

It means, literally, Good News. It is about Jesus, the Christ. It contains the four canonical evangelions and letters sent by Paul. He said: "But go and learn what this means: I desire mercy, not sacrifice. For I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners." on Matthew 9:13, citing literally Hosea 6:6. A very different approach to the bloody sacrifice of animals which was done in ancient times. Jesus also noticed that even Gentiles could learn his teachings, very contrary to Judaism.

It has escathological writings such as Revelation. The Jews who believed in Torah did not believe in hereafter. They thought the body died along with the soul. They only believe in a mild form of Resurrection.

  • Gospels: these are the canonical evangelions. There are others, which are called apocrifal, but they are not included on the standard version of the Bible.
  • Epistoles: these are long letters sent by Paul to the new churches. They are meant to teach and motivate them.
  • Revelation: the last book of the Bible. It depicts the far future when God will judge mankind and the kingdom of heaven will descend to Earth. The Beast (the Evil) will be imprisoned for 1,000 years.
